About Event

Welcome to The 35th Annual William K. Vanderbilt II Memorial Cup Racepresented by Centerport Yacht Club and the Vanderbilt Museum

Registration is now closed as of 9/30. If you have any questions, please contact us.

The Vanderbilt Cup traditionally includes PHRF Spinnaker & Non-Spinnaker Classes, One-Design (4 or more boats) and Club Class divisions, with time allowances per YRALIS PHRF time-on-distance procedures using distance handicaps. Navigator’s style courses finish in Northport Bay with a glorious view of "Eagle's Nest," Vanderbilt’s stunning Spanish Revival mansion and Gold Coast retreat.

Party Like A Vanderbilt!  Racers and guests are then invited to the Vanderbilt Mansion for the Regatta Party to enjoy food, drinks and live music under the stars in the Spanish courtyard. The event will also include raffles featuring great prizes donated by local businesses, with all raffle proceeds benefitting the Vanderbilt Museum.

The Race Entry Fee ($75.00 US Sailing members, $80.00 non-members) includes admission to the Regatta Party for the Skipper + 4 Crew.  Additional Crew members can join the Party for $15.00 each, and non-sailing Guests are welcome at $20.00 each — please click on View Online Storefront to pay for additional Crew and Guests. Entry Fees are non-refundable.

(Admission to the Regatta Party includes dinner and AriZona® beverages, plus two drink tickets per person redeemable for beer or wine. Additional drink tickets will also be available for purchase at the event.)

Notice to Competitors: Race Off - Party Still On!

After reviewing the 3:46 pm Coastal Waters Forecast issued by the National Weather Service for our area, we have decided to cancel the 35th Annual William K. Vanderbilt Cup Memorial Race scheduled for tomorrow. We held out making this decision as long as possible in the hope that the continuing Easterly shift of Hurricane Joaquin’s track would bring improved conditions. However, as of the 3:46 pm Coastal Waters Forecast, the National Weather Service has issued a Gale Warning through Sunday afternoon. With sustained Northeast winds of 20-25 kts., frequent gusts up to 40 kts., 50⁰ F temperatures and rain forecast, we simply do not feel it would be prudent to run this event under these conditions. It is unfortunate, but the safety of our competitors, volunteers and staff is paramount and the reason behind our decision.

However, the Regatta Party is still on, starting at 5:00 p.m.! Since the Vanderbilt Cup is a fundraiser for the Vanderbilt Museum and they still need our support in all kinds of weather, we appreciate your understanding that your Entry and Party Fees are not refundable. But, the huge tent on the Mansion lawn will be dry, the beer will be cold, the food will be plentiful, the band will be rockin’ and we’re going to have one heck of a Gale Force party! We also have some great raffle prizes this year, including free winter wet storage at Brittania (up to 40'), a theater experience from The John W. Engeman Theater (includes dinner, 2 bottles of wine, two opening night tickets to a show, an after performance “meet the cast” and hors doevres), plus other great items like gift certificates for dinners, messages, marine supplies, beauty treatments, and much more. So I look forward to seeing you there!

    Notice to Competitors

Thank you all for registering. Like many of you, we have been monitoring the progress of Hurricane Joaquin closely for the past several days.  Based on the 5:00 am Hurricane Joaquin Forecast Discussion issued by the National Hurricane Center, Miami FL, it does not appear, at this time, that Hurricane Joaquin will adversely impact the running of the 35thAnnual William K. Vanderbilt II Cup Memorial Race.  However, the tracks and speeds of hurricanes are notoriously difficult to forecast, there continues to be divergence among the various models, and the National Hurricane Center is expressing low confidence in its forecast beyond 72 hours, so, we will continue to monitor the forecasts closely and will make a determination as to whether to race at 3:00 p.m. on Friday after reviewing the 2:00 pm forecast issued by the National Hurricane Center.
