The Reach program utilizes sailing as an educational platform, challenging youth to embrace education, establish a love of learning and explore productive Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) based topics. Combining educators, sailing instructors, engineers, scientists with today’s youth to provide them with a one of a kind authentic learning experience, giving students the opportunity to apply classroom learning in a cooperative work environment. Alpha Level is for the novice sailors. If you have limited to no experience in sailing, then this is the course for you. Explore the basics of sailboats while still having fun learning STEM subjects. Beta Level is for people with more sailing experience or in one of the previous Reach courses at SSBG. In addition to learning about keelboats, you will build your own miniature keelboat and apply all the concepts you learn each week into your design. Cost: $400 for 11 weeks. Time is 4:30pm - 7:30pm Alpha: 10-14, Tuesdays, September 13 - November 1, 2016 Bravo: 15-18, Thursday, September 15 - November 3, 2016 Please bring a water bottle and clothes that coordinate with the weather.
