The Columbia Gorge Racing Association is pleased to welcome Peter Barton back to the Gorge to lead the RS Aero Gorge Performance Clinic, August 10-11, 2016. No Aero sailor will want to miss this opportunity to tune up with the current UK National Champ prior to the 2016 RS Aero US National Championships in the Gorge August 13-14. The clinic is open to sailors who have good boat handling skills and are comfortable in winds up to 25 knots. All rig sizes (5, 7, 9) are welcome. Participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied for the duration of the event by a responsible adult who shall be named in the Guardian Consent Form. Enrollment is limited to 20 to ensure personal attention to every participant.

    Peter Barton

    Peter Barton is the 2016 RS Aero 9 UK National Champion and an all-rounder i
    n dinghy sailing, with extensive experience in skiffs, foilers, trapeze dinghies, hikers, and team racing. Eleven times a UK National Champion in seven different classes, Peter brings a wealth of knowledge and insight to his new favorite boat and Sailing World magazine’s 2015 One-Design Boat of the Year, the exciting RS Aero.

    “If there are a couple of things that I believe are key in my sailing, they are 1) keep it simple and focus on getting the important things right; don’t get bogged down in detail when there are bigger gains to be had; and 2) try not to make the same mistake twice; be honest enough to recognize a mistake when it happens, be methodical in working through a solution, and be conscientious enough to implement it.”

    The goal of the RS Aero Gorge Performance Clinic is to introduce each participant to the latest tuning and speed techniques used by top international RS Aero sailors and provide a clear action plan for improved performance in his or her RS Aero racing. Special emphasis will be placed on upwind speed and downwind technique in big wind and waves, a condition for which the Gorge is particularly well-suited! The program will combine onshore chalk talks and video analysis with on-the-water drills and short races. ...
