2016 Fast 50s Regatta : Los Angeles Yacht Club

About Event

You won’t find the term Hurricane Gulch on any of the official NOAA charts for Los Angeles Harbor, but most racing sailors know that the gulch is our “back yard.” And when you study weather documentation, you’ll quickly come to the realization that you simply won’t find finer racing conditions anywhere in Southern California. We’d like to share that experience with the Fast 50 Fleet on September 17 – 18 with a new regatta specifically designed for your fleet. We’ve created all new courses for the 50s. They are essentially windward / leeward courses, but we won’t be using tetrahedrons. Instead, we’ll take advantage of the natural harbor features – government marks, harbor breakwaters and even oil islands. All of the courses have long downwind legs that allow the competitors to enjoy the ocean swells outside of the harbor. But the weather legs will essentially be sailed inside of the breakwater - on flat water. Champaign sailing indeed. • Berthing arrangements are available at Cabrillo Way Marina. • Take home trophies will be awarded to the top finishers for each race in both ORR and PHRF and the Kenneth Watts Perpetual Trophy will be awarded to the overall winner (SEE ACCOMPANYING E-MAIL NOTE). • The entry fee is $250.00. • Hors d’oeuvres and no host bar following each day’s racing. Because of the importance of the Fast 50 Fleet in Southern California racing, Los Angeles Yacht Club will award the Kenneth Watts Perpetual Trophy to the winner of this new event. Named to honor Watts, a celebrated and ground-breaking Los Angeles sail maker, this beautiful perpetual trophy has chronicled the leading edge of ocean racing in Sothern California since 1987.
