US Sailing is the National Governing Body for sailing in the USA. It is responsible for the day-to-day administration of sailing, including disabled sailing, in the United States. The US Classifiers Committee is responsible for the classification of US sailors and determines their national rating and maintains a data base with current ratings of sailors on the US Sailing website. This data base also includes contact information for sailors. For these services, there is a $50 administrative fee that is charged to the sailor once every Paralympic Quadrennium (each four-year Olympic period).
The Disabled Sailing Committee of World Sailing (WS) is responsible for promoting and supporting disabled sailing around the world. International Classifiers assess sailors at international events to determine their international rating and maintain a data base with current ratings of sailors on the WS website. The WS Classification Committee updates and maintains the Functional Classification System, which quantifies anatomical and functional sailing ability. It is revised and updated every four years. For these services, WS charges an administrative fee to sailors once every Paralympic Quadrennium (each four-year Olympic period).
