O’pen BIC Pre-requisite: Optimist Beginner or 420 Beginner Student Age Recommendation: 11- 15 Cost $315 Class Options: two-week classes 1-4 July 12-June 23 or 1-4 June 28-July 7 or 9-12 July 10-July 21 O’pen BIC sailing in half day, two week sessions in summer, is for sailors who have completed an Optimist Beginning or 420 Beginner course and are interested in learning to sail another boat. The hull of the O’pen BIC was designed with fun sailing as the priority. It is a sleek, fast, modern sailboat design with a hull that is as open as possible. That means no water in the boat. The design of the sailboat leaves the sailor completely free to move around and trim the boat to any wind and water conditions. Sailors will have lots of fun with great excitement, cruising our local waters, mastering the points of sail, and learning specific O’pen BIC boat handling techniques. The sailboat was specifically designed for this age group of youngsters, offering an alternative to being limited to only the Optimist dinghy. Higher levels of self-reliability and self-confidence in this age group result from experiencing sailing in an O’pen BIC. With the fun involved in learning how to sail the O’Pen BIC, the sailors will be excited about joining the School Year Program that begins in late August and continues to the end of the school year. **NEW** Mixed Boat Beginner Course Due to the high demand for a late summer Beginner course, we have opened a Mixed Boat Beginner course for 9-18 year olds that will allow latecomers to the VYBA to take a Beginner course in the boat that is the best fit for their size. This class has a small class size to allow our Coaches to work with all of the sailors that sign up in whichever boat best fits their needs.
