MHYC is proud to host its third annual USA Junior Olympic Festivals that includes skill-builder clinics for sailors and coaches in Opti, Laser, c420 and Thistle fleets. It's the only JO between Detroit and Rochester. This is part of a nationwide series of sailing regattas for youth ages 8 to 18 with the goal to encourage young sailors to enjoy sailing and to develop their skill. Events mix Olympic-style competition with elements of learning and fun for all levels--from beginning racers to those with Olympic aspirations. Junior Olympic Sailing is coordinated by US Sailing and sponsored nationally and locally. Thanks to Gill, Sperry, KO Sailing, Zim Sailing and New England Ropes! Coach the Coach Clinic Registration receives: -Fine-tune your coaching skills, bring new ideas back to your race team or sail camp. -Friday evening clinic with national-level coaches including pizza party. -Watch how elite collegiate head sailing coaches work with junior sailors. -Work with the sailors on and off the water. -Daily goals and debriefs with the head coaches and junior sailors. Specifically, the clinic will include: 1. Season planning basics: working in groups to make sure season schedules are well planned, given the specific flow of the Great Lakes schedule. 2. Troubleshooting your team or program: Brian Clancy will lead what’s called a Start, Stop, Continue, exercise. 3.John has some slides from US Sailing Olympic team coaches about sailor personalities and communication. All meals are provided with the $80, providing you with a wristband to use over the weekend June 10-11 (Breakfast, lunch and dinner plus evening parties on Saturday night, and awards ceremony on Sunday. Lunch may be served on the water on Saturday and Sunday. All Full Coach Clinic participants receive an Official Junior Olympic T-shirt.
