Come be a part of Friday Night Team Racing in Santa Barbara where college and post-college sailors will participate in a ‘pick-up’ style of team racing in CFJ’s. The first Friday of the month is scheduled as a scored event where teams can compete for bragging rights. The other Fridays will be very informal allowing sailors to switch between boats and teams with no scores being kept. Experienced sailors are encouraged to invite friends to spectate and join for the post-race party. 3. SCHEDULE OF EVENTS 3.1 Dates of Racing: Fridays – June 23rd through September 1st *The first Friday of the month (July 7, August 4, September 1) will be scored races where competitors are encouraged to put together ‘teams’. All other Fridays will be unscored pick-up style team racing. June 23 – Practice Night June 30 – Practice Night July 7 – Competition Night (put together a team of six sailors and compete for awards!) July 14 – Practice Night July 21 – Practice Night July 28 – NO RACING (Go sail SB-KH!) August 4 – Competition Night (put together a team of six sailors and compete for awards!) August 11 – Practice Night August 18 – Practice Night August 25 – Practice Night September 1 – Competition Night (put together a team of six sailors and compete for awards!) 3.2 Race Schedule Time Event Location 1630 Report time Youth Foundation Docks 1700 Competitors meeting Youth Foundation Docks 1730 First warning signal Near harbor entrance 1900 Post-Race Party Santa Barbara Yacht Club Lower Deck 3.3 PRACTICE NIGHTS - As many races as possible will be sailed with unlimited team changes allowed. 3.4 COMPETITION NIGHTS – Three round-robins will be attempted. 3.5 The schedule may be changed at any time on the water at the discretion of the race committee. 4. FORMAT 4.1 PRACTICE NIGHTS (2nd, 3rd, 4th, & 5th Fridays of the month) – Unlimited team switches and skipper-crew combinations are allowed. Racing may be 2 v 2, 3 v3, or 4 v 4 with the goal to be 3 v 3. The racing will not be scored and these nights are a ‘pick-up’ style of team racing practice. 4.2 COMPETITION NIGHTS (1st Friday of the month) – Teams shall enter online for each individual Team Race Scored night under a designated team name. Teams will be 3 v 3. No more than seven sailors per team shall be allowed on competition nights (one alternate sailor permitted). a.) A triple round robin will be sailed. If the triple round robin may not be completed in the allotted time, then a double round robin with a single round robin for the top four teams will be attempted. b.) If the above formats are not possible within the allotted time, the PRO will announced the best course of action. c.) No incomplete final rounds will be scored, but races in an incomplete round may be used as tie breakers or as races sailed in the next round.
