Notice of Postponement of the January 19, 2019 SCYC MidWinter Regatta Dated January 15, 2019 Attention MidWinter Competitors; Due to extreme adverse conditions at the Santa Cruz Harbor mouth the Race Committee has deemed it imprudent to risk the safety of the SCYC Race Committee personnel or its equipment. It is the Race Committee’s intention to postpone the January 19, 2019 Regatta. The next scheduled Regatta date is February 16, 2019. Conditions under consideration include: SC Harbor Warning - Hazardous & Shoaled entrance conditions, with breaking waves across the entrance are expected to occur at all tides. The consensus forecast for Thursday, Friday and Saturday predict sustained winds up to 37 - 21 kph (3pm Th - 3pm Fr ), harbor mouth surf up to 6 - 4.9 M (12 pm Fr - 9am Sa), near shore swell up to 6.3 M 15s - 5.3 M 14s (9am Fr - 9am Sa). Minus 0.2 M tide at 2:30 pm While the chance of precipitation is low for Friday and Saturday the probability that the dredge will be able to restore a safe channel is very low and the probability is high that the surf, swell and minus tide will present adverse safety conditions for exit and entry.
