This regatta was initiated in 2018 to honor Col. Robert (Bob) Furney (USA Ret) who introduced more sailors to Shields sailing than anyone in recent history. He would always take aspiring sailors looking for a ride on his beloved Yankee, Shields #187. In honor of Bob, this Shields race follows the southern shore of the Monterey Bay along Pacific Grove northern coastline which Bob’s house on Lighthouse avenue overlooked.
The 2020 Bob Furney Memorial race will be held concurrently with the Tune-Up race.
