2020 Junior Olympic Sailing Festival - Macatawa : Macatawa Bay Junior Association

About Event

US Sailing’s Junior Olympic Sailing Program is a nationwide series of sailing regattas for youth ages 8 to 18. Each event in this family of regattas is hosted by a different club or sailing organization but all events share a common goal: to encourage young sailors to enjoy sailing, to develop their sailing skills and become lifetime sailors.

Due to COVID-19 We have made significant changes to the format for this years' race.  For our event in Holland Michigan this year, in response to COVID19, US Sailing is partnering with the Macatawa Bay junior sailing program to host a LOCAL JO's Regatta.   Ordinarily we would welcome sailors from far and wide to join us for the weekend in the excellent autumn breezes and beautiful fall colors along the shores of Lake Michigan, but this year we are asking sailors to limit their travels- and inviting those from within a 2-3 hours' drive radius to join us for a single day racing event.  We plan to start the event later in the morning to allow for and encourage same-day travel to and from the event.   We are not planning on food or T-shirts this year- keeping it streamlined and simple and focused on getting out on the water to race.   We will be capping fleet sizes to allow for robust social distancing on the property as well as requiring face coverings of all participants, coaches, and family members while on land. Awards will be quick and informal to allow for de-rigging and loading of boats so sailors can get home.
