DYSA SUNDAY Fall 2023 sailing classes will be offered on Sundays starting September 10, 2023 thru November 9, 2023. Please read class descriptions below in "Learn More". New class added: EXPLORING SAILING AFTERNOON
Payment for the Fall 2023 session is DUE AT TIME OF REGISTRATION for Exploring Sailing, Exploring Green Fleet, OPTI Fleet Racing and Youth Learn to Windsurf. Class size is limited to 10 PAID students each class, additional students will be put on a waitlist. Early registration for current students has a discount. Discount ends July 13, 2023 and Open Registration begins July 14, 2023. Any registration fees not paid at time of registration will cause that student to be put on a waitlist and the student will not be considered registered for the class.
OPTI Racing is tentatively offered subject to a minimum registration of 6 sailors. Double-handed Seamanship class is offered subject to the coach position being filled and minimum class size of 6 sailors. Payment for Double-handed Seamanship class is not required at waitlist registration and should only be made at the time the coach position is filled. Those waitlist registered will be notified when the coach position is filled: it is important when you register to provide an email address at which you can be reached. The waitlist does not guarantee placement in this class or any other class: only the first 10 PAID registrations will be placed in class once a coach is hired, the remaining waitlist registrations will remain on the waitlist.
Please note: DYSA at any time may change: time of class, coach, band/or your child's class selection based on student's ability as determined by the coaches.
>PARENT VOLUNTEERS: DYSA is a voluteer organization. Parents of registered students will be notified by the Parent Voluteer Coordinator of the dates during the Fall 2023 classes times that they can volunteer.<
CLASS DESCRIPTIONS:
(1) EXPLORING SAILING (OPPIs): For all new to sailing or in need of more experience, this class explores the art of sailing through hands on experiences with a focus on developing a love for the lifelong sport of sailing. Youth sailors will become familiar with rigging the sailboat, points of sail, wind direction and water safety. This class is for beginners and returning sailors as determined by their coach. Ages 8 to 13. Time: Mornings: 9:00am-12:00pm. OR Afternoons:1:00pm - 4:00pm
(2) EXPLORING GREEN FLEET: Newer sailors that wish to hone their skipper skills. This class builds on the basics previously learned. Perfect for returning sailors. Prerequisite: Must be comfortable sailing upwind and have sailed previously with DYSA**. Ages 8 to 13. Time 9:00a-12:00p
(3) OPTI FLEET RACING (IODs): CANCELED
(4) DOUBLE HANDED SEAMANSHIP (420s) CANCELED: Learn to handle larger boats and work as a team. For sailors MUST be in at least 7th grade, at least 13 years old at time of registration and weight over 100 lbs. Must have taken a DYSA sailing course or equivalent experience sailing**. This is NOT a learn to sail class. Time 1p-4:30p. - tentatively offered may be canceled
(5) YOUTH LEARN TO WINDSURF. Classes for students 13 years old and older to learn how to windsurf. Time: 1:00pm-4:30pm.
Students in High School should also consider the High School Practice Program Sunday mornings and/or Wednesday afternoons. HS Practice under separate registration.
Any new registration (not a current student) completed prior to July 14, 2023 will be moved to waitlist and be responsible for any registration fee not paid for new registrant.
**Students will be placed in class appropriate to ability to complete swim test and their sailing ability.
