This event is the only fundraiser for the Southern California Yachting Association (SCYA). Yacht clubs throughout Southern California host the Midwinters Regattas this month in order to continue the service of SCYA to the yachting community. The focus of SCYA is to provide a single platform whereby harbor associations, yachting and boating clubs, rendezvous and regatta organizers can communicate and coordinate their respective activities in one forum.
SCYA provides sail numbers to new boats, maintains the USSA-required local appeals committee for disputed protest decisions, coordinates the opening day calendars of clubs and provides guidance for protocols. It also produces the SCYA Race Calendar that conveniently lists races and regattas from Santa Barbara to Arizona to the Mexican border. And they select the teams to represent Area J in US Sailing Championships.
