Thank you for joining us in this year’s Big Daddy Pursuit Race. We would have hoped for the wind to arrive earlier and understand why more than half of you decided not to wait until the wind came up at last.
We offered the use of the Regatta Hero app on an experimental basis. This app provides a
convenient 5-minute countdown to the starting time of each competitor. As additional benefit It
also creates a record of each participating competitors’ race track and by doing so provides the
race committee with the competitors’ whereabouts and aids the organizing authority with
improving the safety of the competitor.
We would like to thank the 20 brave souls who decided to give this app a try. Here is the URL for the replay:

Please note that the replay speed and trail length can be changed with sliders located above the
race course map.
As you will see in the replay, the app perfectly captured the track of the winning monohull (Brandon Mercer and team on ‘Tenacious Cuttlefish’, a J/24 with the sail number 2176), as well as the tracks of quite a few other finishing boats. We encountered however a couple of rookie mistakes the organizer is assuming responsibility for which caused the reporting for a few other boats to be less than perfect:
1) We inadvertently activated the virtual finish line prematurely, and completely off-station,
around 46 minutes after the first start. This caused the tracks of the following sail numbers
to terminate when the app detected them as having crossed that line: 38139, 51597 and
8573. Our apologies!
2) The tracks of the remaining boats finishing the course were all recorded correctly (as far as
we can tell). However, the ORDER of finishers got reported incorrectly, because yours truly
misunderstood an option of the app when setting up the race that caused the app to
recalculate the race time based on their PHRF handicap; this was obviously not intended.
We hope you enjoyed trying out the Regatta Hero app and seeing the tracks of the participating
competitors. Please contact me with any questions and comments you might have.
Fair winds,
Rolf Jaeger

The SIs are up, but we like to give everyone until the last moment (Friday at 1800) to register. So the handicap start times won't be available until Saturday evening. Meanwhile - RYC is trying out some new software for our competitors. You are welcome to use the Regatta Hero app. This will give you a 5 minute countdown to your start time based on your handicap and it will let you replay your track afterwards. Instructions are in the Race Documentssection. ...
