THE CHALLENGE: To design and build a human-powered boat made of corrugated cardboard capable of completing 1 to 2 trips around the course in the Santa Cruz harbor. The Cardboard Kayak Race is designed to be a fun and wacky race. It does not matter how fast, slow, big, small, sensible or outrageous the boat is, the first rule is that designers, builders, racers and spectators have a crazy good time. Just because it is called a “Kayak” does not mean it has to look like one – pirate ships, riverboats, sports cars, submarines, tacos, animals, guitars, shoes, dragons, and many more creative ideas are welcome.
