The Reach program utilizes sailing as an educational platform, challenging youth to embrace education, establish a love of learning and explore productive Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) based careers. Combining educators, sailing instructors, engineers, scientists with today’s youth to provide them with a one of a kind authentic learning experience, giving students the opportunity to apply classroom learning in a cooperative work environment. This is a one-day teacher development workshop for teachers based in Galveston and the surrounding greater Houston area. There will be up to 10 different modules to choose from and you will get to implement those lessons on the water. After this 8-hour session, you will be armed with the knowledge to get STEM rolling at your school in a fun and interactive way. All of the lessons taught here at SSBG are applicable to the maritime environment, from geometry and simple machines on sailboats to underwater ROV exploration!
