Membership Benefits:
Annual Student Membership -
- Person making the application must be at least 18 years old.
- Full time undergraduate students are eligible for Student Memberships.
- Membership in the Halifax Sailing Association automatically makes you a member of the Sailing Center Incorporated.
- Annual dues are renewable on January 1.
Annual Family Membership -
Person making the application must be at least 18 years old.
List names and ages of all household members who are to be part ofthe membership. Children of the member or adults living in the same household are considered family.
Membership in the Halifax Sailing Association automatically makes you a member of the Sailing Center Incorporated.

Agreement
In return for myself, my family member, and/or my guest being permitted to take part in the activities, and use the facilities and property of Halifax Sailing Association, I do hereby agree to the following:
WAIVER OF LIABILITY: I waive and release any right I, my heirs, distributees, guardians, legal representatives and assigns may have or acquire to make a claim against; sue; attach the property of; or prosecute Halifax Sailing Association, Sailing Center, Inc., City of Daytona Beach, or any of its members, governors, officers, agents, instructors, and affiliated organizations (herein referred to as "the releasees") for monetary damages caused by any injury to myself, my child, or my guests, or damage to the property of myself, my child, or my guest, arising from my own, my child's, or my guest’s participation in the activities and use of the facilities and property of Halifax Sailing Association, Sailing Center, Inc. or City of Daytona Beach, whether or not the injury or damage results from their negligence or other action.
ASSUMPTION OF RISK: I am aware that the activities may involve maneuvering a boat, sailboard or other watercraft on deep waters in potentially hazardous conditions which may include, among other things, strong winds and high waves, sudden and unexpected immersion in deep waters and collision with other watercraft or stationary objects such as docks, pilings and buoys. With knowledge of the dangers involved, I voluntarily ask that myself, my child, my guests be allowed to take part in the activities.
I ACCEPT ANY AND ALL RISKS OF INJURY, OR DEATH, TO MYSELF, MY CHILD OR MY GUESTS, AND ANY PROPERTY DAMAGE ARISING FROM PARTICIPATION IN THE ACTIVITIES AND THE USE OF THE FACILITIES AND PROPERTY OF HALIFAX SAILING ASSOCIATION, SAILING CENTER, INC. OR CITY OF DAYTONA BEACH, WHETHER OR NOT CAUSED BY THEIR NEGLIGENCE OR OTHER ACTION.
INDEMNITY AGREEMENT: I agree to indemnify and hold the releasees harmless from any loss, liability, damage, or cost, including reasonable attorney fees, that may incur due to my, my child's, or my guest’s participation in the activities and use of the property and facilities of Halifax Sailing Association, Sailing Center, Inc or City of Daytona Beach, whether or not such loss, liability, damage or cost results from negligence or other action.
CODE OF CONDUCT: I agree to conduct myself, my children, and/or my guests such that the rights of others are not infringed upon by actions of myself, my children, or my guests. Should such actions occur I agree that my membership may be revoked, including all the rights and privileges contained therein. An assigned panel of no less than 3 members shall be required to make this decision for the Club.
CHECK SAIL: New members are required to complete a check sail by a person designated by the Commodore to prove competency for use of boats under 18’. Use of boats larger than 18’ requires qualification in accordance with Policy and Procedures for Use of Keel Boats – 18’ and Over.
This agreement shall remain in effect until Halifax Sailing Association receives written notice of the cancellation of the consent.
I HAVE CAREFULLY READ THIS AGREEMENT AND FULLY UNDERSTAND ITS CONTENTS AND THE SET OF RULES PUBLISHED WITH THIS AGREEMENT. I AM AWARE THE AGREEMENT INCLUDES A WAIVER OF LIABILITY, AN ASSUMPTION OF RISK, AND AN AGREEMENT BY ME TO INDEMNIFY THE RELEASEES, AND I AGREE TO IT OF MY OWN FREE WILL.
Club Rules
General Rules
- When launching and sailing any club boat from the Sailing Center you must:
- Utilize a buddy system for safety (must be either 2 people on the boat, or 1 on the water and one on shore, or 2 boats sailing together) or sail during a Club sanctioned activity or regatta.
- Sign the boat out in the "Boat Sign Out" log.
- A PFD must be worn while operating Club boats.
- Do not operate Club boats if the wind speed exceeds 15 knots.
- Foot protection must be worn at all times at the Sailing Center, in or out of the water.
- No recreational swimming is allowed.
- No diving or jumping from the dock.
- No fishing from the club facilities.
- Every member is responsible for cleaning up the facility after family members and guests.
- Every individual is responsible for cleaning up and putting away any equipment used. Report any damaged equipment to a club officer.
- Night use of the Sailing Center is limited to scheduled meetings or club activities.
- No dogs, cats, or other animals are allowed at the facility, except service animals.
Boat Storage Rules
- All Club boats must be stored off the ground on trailers or permanent structures to insure proper yard/grounds maintenance.
- All boats must be clearly marked with the appropriate club designation.
- Only sailable vessels will be allowed to remain on the property.
- No motor boats will be stored except for club rescue boats.
- Storage of personal boats is allowed only through the Gold or Silver Membership.
Facility and Grounds Maintenance Rules
- Each affiliated club has a designated area for boat and equipment storage.
- Each affiliated club must maintain their designated area. This includes cutting the grass and weeds if needed, picking up trash and debris, and keeping the property in good order and repair, and in an attractive, clean and sanitary condition.
- Only minor repairs of small boats are permitted on the premises. HSA facilities shall not be used for major maintenance or overhauling of large personal boats or for the maintenance and repair of any other vehicles, including cars.
Silver Membership Rules
- A new class of membership known as ‘Silver Membership’ has been established.
The purpose of this class of membership is to provide members with a convenient place to keep their dinghies to facilitate ease of use in various events.
- A portion of the club grounds will be set aside for the storage of dinghies owned
by Silver members.
- Dinghies must be kept on dollies and be of size and configuration to permit them to be easily moved around the grounds when necessary.
- If the number of dinghies needed to be stored exceeds the space allotted, the club
may permit Silver members’ dinghies to be stored at other places on the club
grounds, or may expand the size of the allotted area, at it’s option.
- Silver membership will be available to all members in any calendar year in which
they are paid up general or student members.
- Silver members are required to make active use of their dinghies; the club
grounds are not to be used as a dead storage area.
- Each dinghy must be identified by it’s owner and will have a club decal affixed to
it so it’s ownership may be known.
- Dinghies that are on the club grounds on January 1 of each calendar year must
pay for Silver membership by January 31 of the current year or be removed by that
date.
- The Silver membership fee is per year, per boat (max 2). This is in addition to the
general membership fee. If sufficient space is available, this may be increased on a
case by case basis.
- The classes of dinghies qualified for Silver membership include Optimist, Sunfish, Laser, 420, and other similar type and size boats as determined by the Board of Directors.
- Each Silver member must agree that they alone are responsible for the safety and
well being of their dinghy. Halifax Sailing Association is not responsible for
damage to, or theft of, any privately owned boats.
- Each Silver Member is responsible for maintenance of their assigned area.
- The Board of Directors, or their duly designated Membership Committee, may approve exceptions for Silver Membership if deemed in the best interest of Halifax Sailing Association.
Gold Membership Rules
- The current revision of Guidelines For Gold Membership is considered to be
a part of this agreement.
- The Gold Member fee is in addition to the General membership fee and shall be for a calendar year.
- Each Gold Member shall be permitted to leave one boat at the facility
subject to this agreement and The Gold Membership Guidelines. The vessel
must be trailerable and launchable at the Club facility or at the boat ramp at Bethune point, mast up.
- . Gold Members are expected to participate regularly in Sailing Center activities including but not limited to recreational sailing of member’s boat, periodic
meetings, work projects, etc..
- Metal tags must remain attached to trailers giving Members number to
identify his/her phone number and Member’s Agent in the event of an emergency. Member will remain responsible in the event emergency contact
with Member or Member’s Agent is not successful. Upon permanent removal
of trailer, metal tag must be removed and returned to HSA.
- When vessel storage locations are assigned, members will be expected to
honor space assignments to accommodate as many Gold Members as
possible.
- Annual renewal of Gold Membership will be subject to review by the Gold
Membership Committee. If non-renewal is to be considered due to breach of
agreement or other reasons, member will be advised of pending non-renewal
with reasons, in writing, by registered mail/RR. Gold Membership
Committee will review such notice and Member’s response. Conclusive
recommended action by the Committee will determine Member’s final
Membership renewal status.
- Non-payment/Breach: in the event member fails to make renewal dues
payment by January 31, or fails to comply with The Gold Membership
Guidelines and the conditions set forth above, the Club will mail to Member
(Registered Mail/RR), a letter notifying Member of the non-payment or breach
and giving Member 20 days to correct the default or remove the boat. Should
Member fail or refuse to cure the default or remove the boat within 20 days,
Member hereby relinquishes all rights, title and interest in the boat to the Club
without any need for court or legal process. The Club may thereafter sell, use
or dispose of the boat, trailer and accessories at the sole discretion of the
Board of Directors.
- Member hereby Releases and Waives any past, present or future claim or
cause of action against the Club or its members or the City of Daytona Beach
for any loss, damage or injury occurring on the premises or arising from Club
activities; Member also indemnifies Club and City of Daytona Beach for
Attorney’s fees, Claims or Judgments brought by Member’s guests for injury,
damage or loss.
- The parties agree that this Agreement and the Gold Membership Guidelines
are subject to revision annually by the Board of Directors of the Club and/or
Committee that may be appointed.
- Member agrees to notify Club of any address change within 10 days thereof.
I have read and understand the Agreement and Club Rules pertaining to the class of membership I am selecting and I agree to comply with them
