SAILING INTRUCTIONS

1 RULES 1.1 The regatta will be governed by the 2017-2020 Racing Rules of Sailing, Appendix D- Team Racing Rules, and the ICSA Collegiate Dinghy Class Rules. 1.2 No on the water umpires will be provided. We will be following a 3-minute justice format led by the Chief Umpire.
2 ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY 2.1 The regatta is open to the first twenty-four (24) teams who complete entry forms for all team members. A team is not considered registered until all six (6) team members have submitted their entry forms and fees electronically. The final list of registered teams was issued electronically in late November.
3 FEES 3.1 Entry fee is $100/person ($600 per team). 3.2 A damage deposit of $100/ boat ($300 per team) will be required by cash or check due during check- in. Checks can be made out to “Eckerd College Sailing.”

5 MINIMUM CREW WEIGHT 5.1 The combined weight of the entire six person team shall not be less than 870 pounds. Each team whose combined weight is less than this amount shall carry corrector weights while racing, the amount of which will be one pound of corrector weight for each pound of team weight less than 870 pounds. Corrector weights shall be distributed among the boats of a team to make the combined weight of skipper and crew of each of the three boats as even as practicable. 5.2 Providing corrector weights shall be the responsibility of the competitors. Only water in sealed jugs shall be acceptable. Competitors shall carry the corrector weights in every race, from boat to boat, and shall secure them in the cockpit of each boat with their own tie off lines. Competitors who fail to do so risk disqualification from all races sailed without the necessary corrector weights. 5.3 Competitors will be weighed in at check-in prior to racing and will have access to the scale prior to their official weigh-in to determine combined team weight. Competitors will be weighed in a light shirt, shorts and no socks or shoes.
6 REGATTA FORMAT 6.1 The regatta is a three-boat against three-boat team race. 6.2 The regatta organizers may change the format of the event at any stage of the regatta to best suit the conditions and regatta schedule. 6.3 The regatta format will be Swiss-League style racing with a live rotation. The live rotation will formulate for “like” teams to sail one another. The first round will be seeded and created before the start of the event by the regatta organizers. The intention is to have a final four round on the final day of competition. The live rotation will be made available via google drive before the event.
7 RACING AREA The racing area will be in Boca-Ciega Bay off the sea wall of Eckerd College.
8 THE COURSE The default course is a starboard digital N.
9 MARKS The starting and finishing marks will be orange balls.
10 DAMAGE 10.1 An initial damage deposit of $300 per team will be required at registration. 10.2 Competitors are required to inspect their boat before each rotation to assess any damage or breakdowns. 10.3 Competitors will report any damage to the regatta organizers and personnel on the rotation dock.
11 PRIZES 11.1 The top 3 teams will be presented with trophies at the conclusion of the event. 11.2 The winning team will be pre-qualified for the 2021 US Sailing Team Race National Championship (Hinman Trophy).
