Race 4. Sailing almost dead downwind, Kermit on Starboard gybe was closing on Margaret on Port gybe. Kermit hailed starboard and held course. Margaret held her course with no change. Margaret crossed in front of Kermit, very close, less than 3 feet. Kermit began to pass Margaret down he starboard side, still very close, but keeping clear. Margaret suddenly swung her helm to port, causing her stern to swing to starboard and to hit Kermit on the port rail approximately 2 feet in front of the shroud base and causing minor damage to the hull to deck joint. After the incident , and Kermit hailing protest and flying the red flag, boat boats continued on their respective gybes toward the leeward mark. Kermit did not observe Margaret doing any penalty turn after the incident. |
