The Girts Rekevics Memorial Foul Weather Race and Cruise event starts AYC’s 2018 calendar of events. This is a fun-filled unique event because it is both a distance sailing race and the first cruise event of the year! Getting there is only half the fun!
We encourage all AYC members to join the racers for a social hour Saturday night beginning at 5:30 PM followed by the dinner 6:30PM Saturday night at the San Juan Island Yacht Club located on the waterfront in beautiful Friday Harbor.
SJIYC has graciously allowed us to use their facilities again this year. The Dinner will be a catered gourmet lasagna, salad and garlic bread with dessert and an open no-host bar at yacht club drink prices; It promises to be a great night with an excellent venue for our post-race party and hilarious trophy presentations. Dinner will cost $18.00 per person. A limited number of dinner tickets will be available at the door for “late dinner registration” for $20.00 per meal, on a first come first served basis. To get an accurate head count for the dinners we request registration and dinner orders be placed by February 20th, 2018 to allow the San Juan Island Yacht Club enough time to order meal provisions.
The event consists of a race and a cruise from Anacortes to Friday Harbor. As in the past, racers will be starting at 09:30 AM between R2 and the Refinery Dock in Fidalgo Bay, Anacortes, and finish between the NW corner of Brown Island and the NOAA Weather Station in Friday Harbor, San Juan Island. A total distance of 19.5nm.
