COVID Illness Policy & Procedures
Effective August 2, 2020
For any policy to be successful during this national pandemic, it is the responsibility of everyone who wishes to participate in, be an active member of, or otherwise be involved with the Edison Sailing Center to be pro-active in following the COVID Illness Policy with fidelity. This policy may be subject to frequent updates based on ever-changing local, state and national guidelines. In all cases, the sailing center will defer to the following authorities for the final word:
The general rule for everyone is STAY HOME if you are ill. This is for the health & safety of staff, sailors and volunteers.
PREVENTION:
- Frequent handwashing and hand sanitizing are highly recommended safeguards that can help prevent illness &/ contain spread.
- Anyone experiencing known symptoms of the virus, such as fever, cough, congestion, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, chills, muscle aches, nausea or vomiting, headache, sore throat, diarrhea, lack of smell or taste are asked to stay home.
- All staff & sailors will be temperature checked at arrival; anyone registering a temperature of 100.4 or higher will be rechecked in 15 minutes (staff, sailor may be requested to remain away from the group until rechecked). Staff, sailors whose temperatures remain 100.4 or higher after recheck will be sent home and remain separated from the group until pick-up.
- All staff & sailors are required to wear a face mask, buff or other approved facial covering (must cover nose & mouth) while on land, particularly when unable to maintain at least 6’ social distance, or while in the pavilions or sheds.
- Only one person at a time may be in any of the sheds. Those waiting must maintain a safe distance from the person inside until he/she exits.
- No one may access the ice machine or refrigerator without a thorough handwashing &/or hand sanitizing and notifying Mike B or other authorized staff member.
- Adults who wish to remain at the sailing center must be symptom free and wear a mask/buff at all times.
- A staff member, sailor or anyone known to the sailor or staff member who comes into contact with someone who exhibits symptoms must contact Ross Webb, Executive Director, or his designee, as soon as possible.
MONITORING:
a Staff, sailor who may exhibit symptoms should remain home.
a Staff, sailor with fever must remain home until fever free for at least three days
a Staff, sailor who test positive for COVID 19 must notify Edison Sailing Center (Ross Webb) and must
have at least one negative test before returning to ESC. It is highly recommended that the individual
complete two cycles of negative test results before returning to the sailing center.
CONTROLLING THE SPREAD OF THE ILLNESS:
- Anyone confirmed with COVID 19 should contact Ross Webb, Executive Director.
- The Executive Director or his designee will notify anyone with whom that person may have come into contact.
- In the event of a COVID-positive individual, ESC will notify the Lee County Health Department and Lee County Parks & Recreation Department for further guidance.

I HAVE READ, CAREFULLY CONSIDERED, UNDERSTAND, HAVE THOROUGHLY DISCUSSED WITH THE YOUNG SAILOR(S) LISTED ABOVE, AND AGREE TO, THE POLICIES SET FORTH ABOVE AND REPRESENT TO EDISON SAILING CENTER THAT IT MAY RELY ON 1) MY AGREEMENT TO THESE RULES, 2) THE YOUNG SAILOR(S) LISTED BELOW AGREEMENT TO THESE RULES, AND 3) THE INFORMATION SET FORTH BELOW AS ACCURATE AND BINDING ON ME AS A PARENT AS THAT TERM IS DEFINED ABOVE FOR THE YOUNG SAILOR(S) NAMED BELOW AND BINDING ON THE YOUNG SAILOR(S) NAMED BELOW.
