NOTICE OF RACE (NOR) AND SAILING INSTRUCTIONS (SI)

 

Organizing Authority—The organizing authority for this regatta is the Dana West Yacht Club.  The Dana West Yacht Club Race Committee will manage this regatta and shall appoint a protest committee.

 

1.     RULES

These races shall be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS), and by any class rules that may apply. The rules of PHRF of Southern California and the rules of any one-design class entered.

 

Only mainsails and headsails may be used.  Spinnakers, Gennakers or double-headsails are not allowed.  Whisker poles are allowed.

 

2.     ENTRIES

Only one entry form is required to enter the entire series.  Completed entry forms must be received by 1700 on any Friday race day.  Entries can be completed on Regatta Network Dana West Yacht Club. (www.regattanetwork,com) Open Calendar. Open SERIES. Scroll to July 24.

 

3.     SKIPPERS MEETING

Thursday, July 23.  1800 hrs.  DWYC ZOOM

 

4.     FEES

All series entries must be accompanied by a $5 entry fee, paid on line with your entry form.

 

5.     NOTICES TO COMPETITORS

Notices to competitors will be posted on the Race board next to the fireplace at DWYC.

 

5.     SIGNALS MADE ASHORE

Signals made ashore will be displayed from the flagpole located on the patio deck of DWYC.

 

6.     SCHEDULE AND CLASS FLAG(S)

Seven races are scheduled (July 24 through September 18, 2020).

The warning signal for the first race will be a single horn blast, sounded at 1755 (5:55 pm) each race day.

 All classes will start together signaled by Class Flags (white flag with black letter A and B) any changes will be made through an amendment to the SI’s and posted on the Race Board.  They may also be repeated over VHF 68 on the water from the Signal Boat (Race Committee).

 

7.     RACING AREA

The racing area will be in the ocean and harbor as described by Dana West Race Chart Inside Finish V2.0.

 

8.     COURSES AND MARKS

Numeric code flags or written course numbers displayed from the Race Committee Signal Boat will signal courses corresponding to the Inside Finish Chart.

 

9.     STARTING AND FINISHING LINES, STARTING SYSTEM

The starting line will be between an orange flag on the RC Signal boat (starboard end of the line) and an orange floating mark (port end of the line).  Finishing line will be between the upstairs deck and the South Jetty Mark Red Rock, approximately 1/2 NM from the harbor entrance.  Be cautious navigating past the shoal marked by white buoys in the outer channel.

 

10.  TIME LIMIT

The time limit for each race will be “sundown” or one house after the first boat finishes as defined and determined by the race committee.  When the first boat finished, the fleet will be notified via channel 68.

 

11.  PROTESTS

Protests are HIGHLY DISCOURAGED.  Protests shall conform to RRS 61 and must be filed within 30 minutes of the last boat finishing the race for your class.

The protest time limit and a list of protests received will be posted on the Official Race Notice Board.  Hearings will be held as soon as possible after racing each day.

 

12.  SCORING

The Low Point Scoring System will apply.  Cruising handicap will be applied (fixed props, furling main, etc) to be determined by the RC. Each Cruising class boat will be rated using PHRF or an arbitrary rating to be determined by the DWYC race committee, not subject to redress.

 

13.  TROPHIES

Individual trophies will be presented as soon as possible following each race on the DWYC patio.  Overall trophies will be presented following the last race on September 11th.  The number of trophies in each class shall be determined by the Race Committee based upon the number of competitors in each race and number of overall series entries.

 

14.  INSURANCE

Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party liability insurance with a minimum cover of $300,000.00 per incident. Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk.  See rule 4, Decision to Race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.

 

15.  DISCLAIMER

Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party liability insurance with a minimum limit of $300,000.00 per incident.  Sailing is an activity that has an inherent risk of damage or injury.  Competitors in this race participate entirely at their own risk.  See RRS 4, Decision to Race.  The race organizers (OA, RC, PC, host club, sponsors, or any other organization of official) will not be responsible for damage to any boat or other property or the injury to and competitor, including death, sustained as a result of participation in this race.  By participating in this race, each competitor agrees to release the race organizers from any and all liability associated with such competitor’s participation in this event to the fullest extent permitted by law.
