SYC Old Timers Regatta 2016 : Southern Yacht Club

About Event

Have you been racing lately? Think you can remember the feel of the helm, know the difference between port and starboard or tack and jibe or come up and come down? Then come on out and help us celebrate our 167th year of sailing by participating in the 2016 SYC Masters (Old Timers') Regatta on Saturday, May 7, 2016, even if you do not sail. Beginning at 11:00 a.m., there will be a "Dutch-treat" brunch plus Bloody Mary’s, Milk Punch, etc., for all. Each registered skipper will be recognized and will receive one of our unique collector’s edition hats. We used to just about fill the East Dining Room in the old clubhouse. Let’s see if we can get back to that level!!! There will be trophy presentation as soon as possible following the racing. In addition to individual unique class trophies, other awards to be presented include the OLDEST PARTICIPATING SKIPPER; the OLDEST PARTICIPATING LADY SKIPPER; the OLDEST WINNING LADY SKIPPER; the overall OLDEST WINNING SKIPPER; and, SPECIAL “GRAND MASTERS” AWARDS FOR THE HIGHEST PLACING SKIPPER AGE 65 OR OVER IN EACH PARTICIPATING CLASS. And, look for the continuation of the Past Commodore’s (or “Formerdore”) Challenge in this year’s event. Plan now to skipper a friend's boat or your own. If you prefer to sail in a particular class, the SYC office can provide you with the name of the Fleet Captain of that class who will help you arrange for a boat. Or, if you prefer, just leave your name with the SYC office and we will try find a boat for you to sail! We really want to see all "MASTER SAILORS" out on the starting line for this event! Make plans early and join us for a fun day – even if you don’t sail! Hope to see you then!!
