This is an invitational regatta. To be eligible a skipper must have had a first place finish in an unrestricted class, in a race or regatta since the prior year's Harbor Championships, where the race starts and finishes in Dana Point Harbor and is sponsored by a Dana Point Harbor yacht club.
There is also a separate Non-Spin Championship Regatta for boats that had first place finishes in restricted non-spinnaker class races.
