Parents and Sailors,
We will be taking COVID-19 very seriously this season, and I will be doing everything I can to
make sure we are maintaining a safe environment for everyone involved. I am collaborating
with Dr. Lynell Newmarch, an SCS parent and local physician who works with COVID patients to
develop a sound set of guidelines for this season. My number one priority when coaching
sailing is always to keep the sailors safe. We will need everyone’s help in maintaining a safe
environment so that we can all enjoy this sport that we love. All sailors, parents, and coaches
involved with SCS this season will be required to follow these mandatory guidelines.
• Face masks worn when inside, during meetings, and when rigging/derigging.
• A distance of 6 feet apart during meetings and when rigging and derigging (except from
assigned crew member for 420 sailors).
• Symptom checks before every practice including a temperature reading.
• Full and honest disclosure of any potential exposures to persons infected with COVID19.
• Proper sanitization/handwashing before arriving to practice.
If these guidelines are not met or cannot be met, sailors will be excluded from participating in
SCS events until they are willing or able to comply. If a sailor is exposed to someone with
COVID-19, or if they suspect that they have been, they will not be allowed to participate in SCS
events for two weeks. We will reimburse parents for this period of absence.
We will be having team meetings via Zoom, and all briefs/debriefs during practice will be held
outdoors with proper distancing.
Everyone within the SCS family will be held to the same expectations, regardless of if they are a
coach, parent, or sailor.
Space Coast truly is a family, and we must all consider and respect each other’s safety. These
guidelines are intended to protect each other. If they cannot be followed, and if this virus is not
taken seriously, Space Coast Sailing will not be able to exist for the foreseeable future.
If you have any questions or objections regarding these policies, please contact me directly.
Thank you for your cooperation,
