Harvey Kilpatrick established this annual classic MPYC race in 1966. He and Pat Patterson (then Rear Commodore) designed the unspeakable trophy, which was always discreetly covered by a black cloth. Unfortunately, the original trophy was tucked under a table and left behind at a Commodore’s Ball, never to be seen again. Thanks to Allan Patterson for replacing the trophy by having a new one cast. This a handicapped long-distance race requires competitors to start in the vicinity of Mile Buoy, round MBARI “A” and Santa Cruz Mile Buoys to starboard and finish at MPYC-F buoy. The race is 42 nautical miles in length forming a large equilateral triangle in southeast Monterey Bay.
