About Event

INVITATION: Rose City Yacht Club invites all eligible boats to participate in the RCYC Moonlight Regatta to be held on the Columbia River. This unique Regatta is specifically intended to provide racers an opportunity to test the boat and crew prior to competing in longer more challenging races such as the Pacific Northwest Offshore Race, Swiftshure, Transpac, or similar races. DESCRIPTION: This is an overnight regatta with a single 12-hour race for distance. ELIGIBILITY AND INSTRUCTIONS: The regatta will be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing and the OCSA General Sailing Instructions as modified by the NOR. The regatta is open to all boats sailing and will be scored on a level basis only. Additional safety requirements are identified in the NOR. DATE AND TIME: April 20, the first warning signal is scheduled for 1900 hours. REGISTRATION: Eligible boats shall enter and pay online at www.sailpdx.org before the registration deadline of 5:00 pm local time the day before the race. No late registrations or on-the-water registrations will be accepted. FEES: The entry fee is $35 for all competitors who are not members of RCYC. All entrants must be current OCSA members to enter this race. COURSES: There will be one class for all boats (level) and one start for all boats. All boats will start between Buoy “14” and the Race Committee stationed at the RCYC moorage. Proceed upriver to Bouy “18.” After rounding Bouy 18 to port, all classes will then proceed downriver to the split channel marker “2” and round to port. All classes will then proceed to Bouy 18, passing through the start line, keeping Bouy 14 to port. Returning to and passing through the start line, having rounded both Bouy 18 and split channel marker 2 to port will be considered a “lap.” Laps will continue until 0700 the following morning. Boats will be finished in place with record of the number of laps completed and progress in final lap determining their position. All boats competing shall record the time, position, and heading of the boat each time it passes through the starting line after having rounded each of the course marks. Any changes will be posted on the official notice board at www.sailpdx.org, not later than 2200 hours on the evening before the race. Section 9.2 of the OCSA General Sailing Instructions does not apply to this event. SHORTENED COURSE: The race a fixed duration for maximum distance, therefore there will not be a shortened course. TIME LIMIT: All boats will have 12 hours to complete as many laps as possible. Anchoring during the race is permitted. TROPHIES: Awards will be presented at the OCSA Awards Party.
