Welcome and Introductions
Doug McMurrey from TCYC is the PRO for our 1 day race starting at 10am tomorrow.
Our lead starting and finishing race committee member is Bill van Ravenswaay, with HYC
Our lead scoring race committee member is Erin Womack
Our judges, should the need arise, are J Grills and Tony Nunes, from HYC.
Ken Womack has been instrumental in putting this together, cooperating with HYC and Galveston Yacht Club.
There is an updated SI posted today that corrected some GPS locations on page 7, the Race Area Chart; there is also a note posted about the relatively minor changes between the original September12 SI’s and today’s.). We did add 2 extra Courses using the existing marks on page 11.
Regrettably, the 3 registered multihulls will not participate tomorrow.
All 3 of the remaining boats are planning to sail PHRF Non-Spinnaker, hence we plan to use a shorter course.
There is a new course using our original marks on page 11. Given the Weather we plan to use a, the just added 4 Red. It is the only mark that gives us an upwind leg, and short enough to keep in mind that out wind likely be around 8 MPH rising to around 13MPH (no promises about that). That course will be approximately 38 NM round trip. Sail out from jetty entrance on about a 110 deg course for 16 miles and, after a port rounding at the Weather Buoy 42035, then head back to the start/finish line.
The start will between HSC #11 (green mark) and an Orange Tarp on-shore (about 1100 yards), this line will serve that finish line as well.
We are planning to use a Window start and Time on Distance. The window will be open to start GPS time at 10:00am and will close at 11:30am. Any Written Changes to the SI’s will be posted prior to 9am before the start. Any Verbal Changes to the SI’s would be given by
Channel 68 to each boat at the starting area prior to the Window start; we will ask you how many souls aboard your vessel at that time.
We also anticipate confirming our plan to use 4 RED course at that time.
At the finish, the boats are requested to announce on the VHF that are about .5 NM from the finish and again a few minutes before finishing. If it is dark, please put a flashlight on your sail number. If there is no race committee on-shore when you finish see SI’s for details as to how to finish and record you own time. Any participant that finishes later than 2am, Sunday morning will be scored DNF.
A general note: if any mark of the course is not present, please use the Lat/Lon for the missing mark; again the SI’s detail this process.
If you have AIS, we will be looking it.
Please be sure to not interfere with Commerical traffic or run aground on the very shallow water on the South Jetty as you leave the starting line and in particular near HSC 5A.
Thanks very much for your participation!
