Notice of Race Set Sail for a Cause Leukemia Cup Regatta September 20, 2014 Benefitting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society - Oregon/SW Washington Chapter Oregon Women’s Sailing Association (OWSA) (OA) 1. RULES The sailboat races will be governed by the 2013-2016 Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) and the Oregon Corinthian Sailing Association (OCSA) General Sailing Instructions (found in the 2014 OCSA Racebook), and any supplemental sailing instructions posted on the OCSA Event Notice Board at http://www.sailpdx.org/racing/event-notice-board/ no later than 2200 local time on Friday, September 19, 2014. Information on how to obtain the 2014 OCSA Racebook can be found at http://www.sailpdx.org/racing/racebook-course-charts/. The Small Yacht Sailing Club of Oregon (SYSCO) will administer the Race. 2. FLEETS A minimum of three starting boats will be required to constitute a PHRF, one-design, or cruising class fleet. PHRF entrants must hold a current PHRF-NW rating certificate. Club PHRF ratings may be assigned for boats racing who are not current members of PHRF-NW; club ratings are issued by the race committee, and are valid only for this event. 3. RACE FORMAT & LOCATION All sailboat racing will be conducted on custom courses with fixed or temporary marks on the Columbia River between the I-5 and 205 bridges, using one or more courses listed in the OCSA Race Book and Course Chart. An after party will be held Red Lion Jantzen Beach, on Hayden Island following the Regatta. 4. ELIGIBILITY Competitors: This race is open to all. Competitors need not be a member of a Yacht Club. Please register early for this worthy cause so that the event can be properly planned. The Entry Fees shown are the minimum amount required to participate in this event. Additional fundraising participation for this worthy cause is encouraged. Entry fee includes race, (1) personal fundraising website and (1) ticket for concession lunch and t-shirt. 5. SCHEDULE OF EVENTS a. Friday: September 19, 2014 1200 : Registration for races closes b. Saturday: September 20, 2014 1400 : First race Warning signal for all fleets 1700- 2200 – Gosling Rum after party and award ceremony. (Tickets can be purchased for a fee or by fundraising$100 minimum) c. Sunday: September 21, 2014 1200: Family Fun Sail 7. REGISTRATION Registration will be completed online at: https://www.regattanetwork.com/clubmgmt/applet_registration_form.php?regatta_id=8189 8. PROTESTS Sailboat protests will be heard by the Protest Committee according the Sailing Instructions. 9. PRIZES · First, Second and Third Place boats in each class · Award presented to the top individual fundraiser · Leukemia Cup presented to the top fundraising team 10. DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY Competitors participate in this event entirely at their own risk. It shall be the responsibility of the skipper to inform the crew of the risks of sailboat racing, to make sure they understand and accept those risks, to decide whether the crew is competent and adequate for the event, and to decide whether to start or continue in a race.  SYSCO, OWSA and their organizing members will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the event. OCSA insurance minimums are required. All boats shall have liability insurance currently in effect, covering yacht racing activities, property damage, personal injury and death in an amount appropriate for the type of boat being sailed.
