Day 2, the final day of racing at the 2012 CYA Sail West Regatta and Laser District 6 Championships, was a fun filled day of racing across all of the race courses. There wasn’t a cloud in the sky and the sailors had smiles on their faces as they headed out to race in a nice 10-15 knot breeze.
The Optimist Green fleet once again had a fantastic day out on the water. It’s pretty amazing to watch how much each sailor improves race by race, and how much fun they are having out on the water!
Meanwhile the Optimist fleet saw some tight racing. The final results saw Jack Reider of Royal Vancouver Yacht Club take the overall win, and the CYA Western National Trophy. 1st overall in Blue Fleet was Alec Coleman of West Vancouver Yacht Club, and 1st in White Fleet was Ethen Kinsman of Royal Vancouver Yacht Club.
The double-handed course completed four races today. The racing was very competitive across the fleets, and all competitors were working incredibly hard. In the 420 fleet it was Kia Mieklejohn and Rebecca Harper from Royal Vancouver Yacht Club that took the win. In the 29er fleet it was Jen Braem and Kristine Williams from Royal Victoria Yacht Club sailing a very consistent series to win the CYA Western National Trophy.
Over on the single-handed race course there was some exciting racing to watch with leads exchanged throughout the races. In the Laser fleet it was Alexander Heinzeman, from Royal Vancouver Yacht Club, taking the win, and also the Distric 6 Laser title. Meanwhile, it was Adrian Vlasic, from Royal Vancouver Yacht Club, taking advantage of his consistent series to win the Laser Radial Fleet. Thank you to all the competitors for making this a positive event!
