May 2, 18:00 Most of the E Fleet started properly and headed upriver after the start. When I thought it was time for us to tack downriver to make
mark A, I noticed that most boats were continuing on upriver after passing what I thought was the lay line. We finally got clear of
Windwaker who was on our hip, tacked and sailed to A, with Windwaker following us. After a little while, we noticed that Osprey had
finally tacked as well, but Pajema and French Kiss sailed on upriver to the viscidity of where U should be, and I'm quite sure they
never came near A at all. Osprey sailed near A but never completed the 'string test' of a rounding. She sailed on the South side of
the mark and then turned and sailed back upriver, passing the mark to port, but she never rounded. I'm certain that Elixer and
Windwaker DID round properly, and, after we had finished I saw Caleuche u nder spinnaker sailing to the finish. I hailed them and
asked if they rounded A and they said they had.... I had already flown my red flag, hailed the committee boat, and was headed in for
the night... |
