    2016 Rose Bowl Regatta -- January 2 - 3, 2016 -- Press Release

    Long Beach, CA

The 31st Rose Bowl Regatta, hosted by the US Sailing Center – Long Beach, CA and the USC Varsity Sailing Team, featured 92 teams and well over 400 sailors. Twenty-nine collegiate teams from all over the United States and 63 high school teams from all over California plus three visiting teams from Washington State all competed on Saturday and Sunday, January 2-3, 2016 off the Belmont Memorial Pier in Long Beach, CA.

Conditions were classic Southern California New Year weather in the mid 60’s. Saturday greeted the sailors with light winds, 4-8 knots from the South and Southwest. On Sunday the breeze started at about 6 knots and slowly built throughout the day to over 12 knots. Sunday’s East/South East wind direction was influenced by the storms headed into the area, however, no real storm weather arrived until well after the event was over.

On Saturday evening over 450 sailors, coaches and parents enjoyed a Mexican dinner at the US Sailing Center where after dinner the college teams gave presentations to the high school sailors and parents on their educational institutions and their competitive sailing teams. USSCLB Executive Director and USC Head Coach Mike Segerblom moderated the presentations noting that there are over 250 college sailing teams around the USA at most of the nation’s top colleges, providing a great opportunity for sailors to continue their involvement in the sport.

Competition was close in all fleets. Complete results and further information are available on the links below.
