Sarasota Youth Sailing 33rd Annual Sailfest Regatta : Sarasota Youth Sailing

About Event

On April 10th and 11th, Sarasota Youth Sailing will hold our largest sailing and fundraising event of the year - the 33rd Annual SailFest Regatta. This longstanding Junior Olympic event draws over 200 sailors and their families to the Sarasota Sailing Squadron, and surrounding areas for the weekend.

Sarasota Youth Sailing (SYS) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization that provides sailing opportunities for youth ranging in age from 5-18. Since the late 1970’s, we have worked to get children of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities sailing on Sarasota Bay. We offer classes for all skill levels, as well as opportunities for school and community organizations.

Our mission is to encourage youth sailors to experience the joy of sailing in a safe and fun environment. We strive to impart a love of sailing as a life sport, while providing the fundamental skills necessary for participants to advance in the sport as far as their desire, skill and hard work may take them. We promote ethical behavior among our sailors and teach life-long lessons, which build character, foster teamwork, develop self-reliance and instill respect for the marine environment.

Notice to Competitors To Competitors in the Red, White and Blue Opti fleets: The Race Committee is looking forward to seeing you on the water. To make the event run smoothly for everyone, we encourage all competitors to please be aware of the following: Read your Sailing Instructions and memorize the signals for each course you might see the RC signal. Sailing the wrong course is a bummer. The starting line will be exciting with close to 70 competitors. The RC will work hard to give all competitors a fair start, but expects competitors to do their part to start properly. Repeated General Recalls on a good start line will lead to the RC signaling start penalties including U flag (30.3) and Black Flag (30.4). Make sure you know how those rules work. Be safe! We hope you have a great time on the water and trust you will let us know if you need to leave the sailing area or need assistance that can’t be handled by your coach, or support person. Best wishes to all, Race Committee 04/05/2021 ...
