About Event

We are proud to host this event, part of a nationwide series of regattas for youth. The goals are to promote the enjoyment of sailing and development of skills as well as provide an Olympic pathway for junior sailors. In 2012, 25+ events are planned in the continental United States and Hawaii and over 4,000 sailors are expected to participate. Junior Olympic Sailing is coordinated by US SAILING and sponsored by West Marine, Gill, Active.com and Hobie sunglasses.

    Ian Schappe has been an instructor at Lake Forest Sailing for the past three summers. He sailed on the Lake Forest High School sailing team, and competed in several national events during that time, including three Baker Team Racing Championships and two Mallory Fleet Racing Championships winning A division his senior year. Last summer he won the 470 National Championship while crewing for Hunter Ratliff. He also sailed with the team that won the 2009 CJ Buckley Junior Team Racing National Championship. His sailing experience is primarily in the 420, but he has also raced FJ’s, Sunfish, and various keelboats in a number of longer distance races, including five Bayview Mackinac races. ...

    Lake Forest Sailing alumn will lead the Opti clinic! Hunter Johnstone first learned to sail optimists at Lake Forest Sailing, going on to compete in the class for six years at the national and international levels with highlights 1st at the 2007 British National Championships and 2008 USODA Midwest Championships. At Lake Forest Academy, Johnstone started a sailing team that competed in 420 class High School events around the Midwest. In its second year, the team took 4th at the 2011 MISSA Mallory Qualifier and was ranked 8th of 24 in the region. Johnstone plans to compete on the sailing team for Dartmouth College starting this fall. ...

    USSDT sailor Gordon Lamphere named as Laser clinic director! Gordon is an experienced single-handed sailor, who has represented the United States in the World Championships in both the Laser and Finn. He is a recent graduate of St. Mary’s College of Maryland where he was Co-Captain of the Varsity Sailing Team and Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Gordon is a native Lake Forester and a member of The United States Olympic Sailing Development Team Sperry Topsider in the Finn. Gordon is ranked in the top fifty in the World in the Men’s Olympic Heavyweight Dinghy (Finn) and finished in the top twenty overall in the 2012 Sailing World Cup. ...
